Sleep or Something Like It

You know how yesterday's post shows Little Bear sleeping so peacefully in his own bed. Doesn't that just make me seem like oh, this is her FOURTH child and she just has this thing down.

After all, this IS my fourth baby and it should all really be under control. Plus, we are the home of very good sleepers. Including Destructo Dog, we can all sleep well past 8am on the weekends.

But, Mr. Drooly Pants, because he is ALREADY getting his teeth, is not doing so great in the sleep department this week and I am too OLD to be good at this getting out of bed in the middle of the night thing. I'm not really that old, but I'm using it as my excuse here.

Here is how the night goes-

Baby in bed at 8pm. I get in bed by 11:30pm. He wakes at 12:30pm. I am just entering REM sleep or something like it and so stumble to the crib, pick him up by his legs on accident, realize I am picking him up the wrong way, whisper "sorry baby" and walk in small steps to my bed so as not to trip on anything with baby in arms.

I lay on my side, let him feast, and I promptly go back to sleep. Before he was sleeping through the night a few months ago, this was all working fine because HE would go back to sleep too. But, the last few nights he is moving- a lot. He is rolling and kicking and pulling hair and scratching the sheets with his nails. At this point, in my half sleep state, I am thinking that I need to put him in his OWN bed, but I am too tired to wake fully enough to do it. So I endure the kicking and scratching and rolling in half sleep, wondering what the heck he is doing, but too sleepy to even open my eyes to check. NOISY, NOISY! Finally, 4am comes and I feed him again. The scratching, rolling and kicking ensues. But, now he decides to talk. I don't know who he is talking to- maybe the ceiling fan- because Hottie Husband is OBLIVIOUS to all of the happenings going on in our bed. Well, not all of the things that go on in our bed, but these particular baby involving things.

I finally have enough brain power to wake fully and carry him to his crib which is all of 10 feet from my bed. He sleeps QUIETLY until 8:30.

Really, I think, that is all I had to do? And instead I endured the scratching and kicking and rolling and half state of sleep because I just couldn't wake up enough to walk 10 feet.

From now on I will behave as if this were my fourth child and will remain coherent and energetic enough to walk ten feet in a half state of sleep so that it does not become my constant condition throughout the day. We'll see if this stating something as a fact works tonight.

Seriously, my blinks are lasting a little too long during some of these daylight hours.

{laughing heartily} .... not at you btw, but in some kind of weird bonding way ... you just described my night. I really, really thought I was the only one who did this.

Putting them back seems so obvious, but oh so hard when everyone else is sleeping.

Don't think being your fourth has anything to do with having this down. I've been doing that since my 1st ...:/

I am there for you in a BIG WAY. !!!!

I think sleep might be one of the most life changing things on the planet.

How 'bout Hottie Husband carrying him over to the crib? Will he move if you nudge him a little? I learned this waaay too late in the game!

You are so funny! I had the same problem with my little one. So I moved the crib closer to my bed, so now its one foot away :) Not very decorative in a way of bedroom decor...but at least she sleeps close by and easy for me to put her back. But I do love how you grabbed him by the feet!;)

Oh my gosh. I so don't miss those sleepless nights. I do not function on little or no sleep!!

Just found out today, one of my best friends is pregnant with her fourth. She's 38 and was so done. But God had other plans in store for her;)
