My Child

Do you ever have moments when your child does something and you completely fall in love with them all over again? Those moments when you see into their very hearts and you are amazed.

I had one of those moments tonight.

Jackie Boy, my eight year old,  was lighting the fire for me something I still have not mastered and the news was on about the earthquake in Haiti. He was really concentrating on making a good fire like his daddy has taught him so I didn't think he was even paying any attention to what was happening on the television.

He suddenly looked up at me and said-

Mommy, where are they going to sleep tonight?
Who baby?
The people. The people in the earthquake.
I don't know. The president of the Haiti was on TV a little bit ago and said his palace and his home were destroyed and he didn't even have a place to sleep. It is a very poor country and they have been devastated.

The images of these hurt and broken people kept flashing on the TV.

He looked back up at me and said-

What can we do to help them have a place to sleep? Can we help them have a place to stay?

It was then that I just fell in love all over again with this sweet boy of mine. I had heard the news during the day of the devastation and I know the ways to help, but I had done nothing.

So I explained to him that there are organizations that work to help people during disasters and that they will set up shelters and bring food and water to help.  I asked if he remembered making the shoeboxes at Christmas every year for the children all over the world, then explained that we could go on to the Samaritan's Purse website and donate money. That was what we could do.

It didn't seem like much in the face of the destruction, but it was something. So we prayed over the people of Haiti and the money we gave and Samaritan's Purse. We prayed healing over the nation and for people to be rescued and that those most in need would get shelter and food and water and medical attention in time.

In time.

He seemed comforted that he had done something to help.

Then he looked at me and said-

Mommy, could you please look for my Bible tomorrow? I haven't had it since we moved and I really want to find it.

Yes, I will do that for you my sweet boy.
