Living in a Castle

Don't Hottie Husband and I look happy here?

It's because we have been living in a castle.
ALONE.

Well, not actually alone.
There were a lot of other people there.
Just not the little and big ones that usually surround us with many needs, requests, etc.
So we felt ALONE
and it felt wonderful.

We also weren't really in a castle, just a lovely hotel built in the late 1800's in Banff, Canada
that resembles one.

My mom flew up to take care of our crew for a few days so we could get away.
We try to do it every year for our anniversary, taking turns making the plans each year.

This was the view from our room.

The Canadian Rockies and the
Bow River

We almost felt like we were in Europe, in the Swiss Alps or Bavaria.

The mountains surrounding were majestic

as were the uninterrupted moments
calm walks
unhurried dinners.

We loved walking the hotel grounds

looking at the cool antiques
like this mailbox with a chute from each floor that all landed in this box on the mezzanine.

and this grand hall where I imagine lovely dinners
and grand dances.

We snuck up in a secret elevator to get to one of the highest floors.
I was able to get this picture of the town of Banff from one of the windows.

I have more to tell about the town of Banff and the craziness of leaving our children but for now,
I just want to talk about the castle.

It is actually the Fairmont Hot Springs Hotel in Banff.

So romantically gorgeous!! As your boys get older, you'll be tempted not to "get away", you'll be afraid there will be moments you'll miss, moments you'll think you're in need...but the thing is: one day your boys will tell you that they want a marriage just like yours, bc they'll have been watching and will know that your marriage is a priority to you and it will make them feel happy and safe, knowing that the two of you love to get away together :)))
