Bikini

My first job was working in a bikini shop.
My mom and sister opened it when my sister was eighteen.
I was eleven.
I would run the cash register, help customers, and put the massive amounts of bathing suits that women would try on back where they were supposed to go.

We had fun!
Lots of fun!
Except for that one time when a big hairy man came in and tried on bikinis.
That was not fun.
We had to call the police.

We were also in the KROQ (a very popular rock radio station in LA during the 80s) Bikini Shop Contest.
Yes, you read that right- a radio station who hosted a bikini shop contest.

Our shop won- The Best Bikini Shop in Southern California!
The radio station came to the store to judge it.
Then we had ten girls model bathing suits on the beach during another part of the contest.
Our models consisted of mostly my sister and her high school friends - and me!
We were clean cut, all-american, girl next door types.
The other shops had more...   ummm... how should I say... not so girl next door types.

When I got on the stage which was set up on the beach with the radio station broadcasting and a crowd full of guys, they started yelling- jailbait, jailbait, jailbait!

I had no idea what it meant! I walked around and got off of the stage as quickly as I could.

Because of this early experience, I know a lot about bikinis.
I also know that my body has not been bikini ready these last few years.
But, it wants to be.

We are going to Maui.
In a little over three weeks, I will be soaking up the sun on a beach with my family.

My boys know that I have been working out and eating right. But, every once in a while they will ask- Mom, why aren't you having any cake?

My new response- Because I wan't to wear a bikini in Hawaii!

Horrified look on 9 and 10 year old boys faces- MOMMMMM- You can't wear a bikini!!!!!

I just want to know at what point I became the mom that my boys would be horrified of the idea of me wearing a bikini! When did that happen? I wore one after Toots was born and they never said a word. But, they were only 5 or 6 at the time. Now they are 9 and 10. I guess they are more aware of what girls are wearing now and their mom just doesn't seem to fit into the bikini category of their minds.

I am down 16 pounds and 17 and a half inches.
I'll show them!

I may not be jailbait anymore, but I still don't think I am too old for a bikini.

Not yet anyway!

Oh girl I'm so proud of you!

WE are going to Maui too...the third week in April. That has been my motivation too.

Amazing how cake isn't as tempting when you are focused on that bikini. I have never worn one!!! Isn't that crazy? Not sure if I will in Hawaii or not, but I will have the bod to do so...of that I'm sure:) So excited for you.

I just got "ma'am"ed tonight at the grocery store. I think that means I can't wear a bikini anymore. I bet my 10 and 7 year old boys would agree. Maybe I'll ask them just for kicks. :)
