Witness

Everybody needs a witness.
Because otherwise, what fun is it to hit a home run when nobody is there to watch?
Or to bake a delicious pie that nobody will taste?
Or to create something lovely that nobody will see?
Everybody needs a witness.
Especially children.

Here, the boys got to win a tournament and have their cousins there as witnesses.

And we got to witness this little catcher throw out a bunch of base stealers at second this All-Star season.

And this guy got to hit the walk-off hit to end the game to win the State Championship.
Yes, our little 10 and under All-Stars won the Montana State Championship.

Someone needed to be there to witness the hit and the joy on that face!

And this little one just wants you to witness all his new accomplishments.

Who wants to get up on water skis?

or a wake board for the first time

without a loved one to witness it?

But sometimes being that witness comes with some...
let's say...
sacrifice?

For example, one might be changing a particularly challenging diaper (a run down the leg to the foot and smear all over the pants want to throw you in the tub kind of diaper) during a baseball game.
And one might just finish changing said nasty horrible diaper in a now poopy stroller and be walking to the bathroom to wash now very poopy hands when a friend points out that your son is up to bat.

Then, what do you do?
Do you rush to the bathroom and wash your hands hoping you won't miss anything good or...
do you stand there, with poop covered hands held up away from your body and watch your child hit a triple, bringing in three runs?

I'll tell you what you do!

You stand there and witness...
you do it because you are his mother.
And poopy hands are a small price to pay for witnessing a moment like that!

OMGosh! Great post! So, so true! You stand there and watch, regardless of your own condition and in years to come, your boys really will tell you thanks for being there! It happens...I'm a witness to that :))

I love how you share such neat things about your kids without ever sounding like your bragging in the obnoxious kinda way (I mean that as a compliment)! You have a way with words :)
