Cooking Carl

Last night the boys went fishing down by the lake.
They didn't come back with any fish, but they did come back with Carl.
Carl the Crawdad.

We have had many critters around here lately including some pack rats that they dubbed- Charlie, Stanley and Fred.
We all agreed that the name of the next critter would be Carl.
I wasn't expecting it to be a crawdad, but I like the alliterative effect.

They were determined to eat Carl.

So they went on the Internet, looked up how to cook a crawdad and put water on to boil.

We dropped him in alive- he didn't scream like a lobster- thank goodness!
We boiled him for four minutes.
It was all very simple.

They thought Carl smelled mighty tasty.

We thought he should have an additional bath of butter.

And then he was devoured.
Taken apart bit by bit by little boys.

Here are the remnants of Carl the Crawdad.
He was much like a little lobster.

I told the boys they'll have to catch more next time.
Carl was a bit difficult to share with his tiny tail and claws.

I may not give you fancy crafts to try here on my blog, but with these four boys, there will always be adventure.

I had to show my boys. They are so jealous. Many a trip to the creek has never yielded such a result. On the rare occasion they do find one, they are little bitty squirts. Not worth boiling water for! Oh well, they can't all be Carls!

That is a very popular meal where I live. Add in some little red potatoes and corn on the cob and you're all set.

How cute are they, the whole boiling thing to that little, creature, but what a great Mama to go through the process so they could learn. I think you are training some Mountain boys now!!:)

My son and his cousin LOVE to catch crawdads and eat them. They have decided to keep and eat only the really big ones cuz they are easier to get the meat from. The last time we did this was Labor Day when they had about 20. Was just getting ready to do a post on that myself!!

LOL!!!

I follow several blogs where crawdad feeds are the NORM! Judging from their take, y'all did just the right thing. I do agree that more would make the meal that much more enjoyable ~

P.S. You did not say whether you tried any???
