Don't Forget Them

This week the Kindergarteners in Toot's class went on a field trip across the street to a care and rehabilitation center.

They walked through the halls and sang Christmas carols.

jingle bells
we wish you a merry christmas

I went along to watch but didn't get to see Toots sing one carol.
I got to see something even better, if that's possible.

Little Bear and I ended up at the end of the pack.
He wanted to walk.
And then he noticed all the people in wheelchairs coming out of their rooms.

He turned toward them each, made eye contact, smiled and then reached out.

This sweet lady was hot on our heels in that chair, moving herself forward as fast as she could with her feet.
Her hands were no longer usable.
But, Little Bear reached out and touched her hands.
Then, he walked down the hall giving high fives and stopping to visit with each one.

It was a lovely, pure thing.
It was a gift to watch my child bring joy.

My husband preaches & our family goes to a nursing home most every Sunday.
The residents there love children.
So special that Little Bear was not shy & made the people smile.

What a blessing he is to you and them.

What ever happened to that little boy in one of the kiddo's classes who was going to be expelled? Am I remembering correctly?

Oh girl that blessed my heart so much. My mom used to take me to nursing homes as a little girl. I loved those people. Shame on me for not doing that with my own girlies. Beautiful post!
