Homemade is always better when it comes to dressings and sauces.
It just is.
Well, maybe it's just better when it comes to food in general, but today I'm talking Teriyaki Sauce.
And this one is good.
Start with a cup of water poured into a small sauce pan.
Add 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 1/2 a teaspoon of ground ginger
and 1/4 of a teaspoon of garlic powder.
Add five or six tablespoons of packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons of honey
Stir those ingredients together and begin heating on medium.
Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with a 1/4 cup of COLD water. Pour into saucepan.
This will thicken the sauce.
Heat until desired thickness. You can add water if it gets too thick.
Mix with sauteed chicken and stir fry veggies.
(I keep a bag of frozen stir fry veggies in the freezer so I can make a quick meal)
Put your chicken, veggies, and homemade teriyaki sauce mixture over steamed rice and
you have a yummy meal.
Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (you can use less if the ginger is too strong for your tastes)
2 tablespoons honey
5-6 tablespoons packed brown sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water
Mix all ingredients (excluding cornstarch and 1/4 c. cold water) in a saucepan. Begin heating on medium. Mix cornstarch with cold water and add to saucepan. Heat until desired thickness.

Yummo. I agree about homemade dressings and sauces. I make a mean homemade potsticker dipping sauce myself.
